– 40% women-led businesses
– 10 UK regions and nations represented
– 50% already selling overseas
This is why the Great British Entrepreneur Awards exists. Not to celebrate the loudest voices, but the businesses quietly powering the UK economy.
Vedaprabhu Basavarajappa, founder of Beamgrid Technologies LTD, said:
“Being named a finalist for Innovation Entrepreneur of the Year is a huge honour. Beamgrid Technologies was built on the belief that advanced antenna innovation can solve real-world connectivity challenges, and I’m proud that our work is being recognised on a national stage. This is a moment to celebrate the team, our customers and everyone who has supported the journey so far.”
Beamgrid Technologies LTD’s milestones include:
– Developed advanced antenna technology to address real-world connectivity challenges
– Built Beamgrid Technologies from Reading with a focus on UK-led engineering innovation
– Progressed from early-stage R&D into practical product development
– Created technology aimed at improving wireless performance, reliability and coverage
– Built partnerships and conversations across the telecoms, defence, aerospace and technology sectors
– Established Beamgrid Technologies as an innovation-led business in the antenna and connectivity space
– Recognised nationally as a finalist for Innovation Entrepreneur of the Year
Frankie James, founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, said:
“When we launched the Great British Entrepreneur Awards in 2012, we set out to back the businesses that get on and build, the ones that don’t always get the recognition they deserve. More than a decade on, over 5,000 applications tell me we were onto something. This year’s cohort represents billions in turnover and tens of thousands of jobs, but what I’m proudest of is the determination behind those numbers. These are founders who have stuck with it through every kind of year, and championing them is exactly why we do this.”
The Great British Entrepreneur Awards are proudly supported by Allica Bank.
Conrad Ford, Chief Product & Strategy Officer at Allica, said:
“What stands out this year is the optimism and ambition that continue to define the UK’s established business community. Having run my own business, I know the resilience, creativity and sheer determination it takes to build something that lasts, especially in challenging times.
“Established businesses are the real economy, making up a third of the UK’s GDP and employment, and represented in every town across the country. At Allica, we’re proud to support and celebrate their contribution through the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.”

Innovate UK backed BeamGrid Technologies Successfully Demonstrates Live Proof-of-Concept for Passive RF Structural Health Monitoring Platform (EchoNet SHM)
Reading, United Kingdom – 03 Feb 2026 – BeamGrid Technologies today announced the successful completion of a live proof-of-concept demonstration of its EchoNet Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) platform, a breakthrough passive RF sensing technology designed to enable continuous, battery-free monitoring of critical infrastructure.
The live demonstration validated BeamGrid’s approach to structural monitoring using passive RF resonator tags interrogated remotely through wireless signals, demonstrating real-time detection of structural changes without wired sensors, batteries, or intrusive installation methods.
The milestone marks a significant step toward scalable, low-maintenance monitoring solutions for bridges, tunnels, transportation assets, and other critical infrastructure systems.
Reimagining Structural Monitoring Through Passive RF Physics
Traditional structural health monitoring systems rely heavily on wired instrumentation, battery-powered sensors, or periodic manual inspections – approaches that increase cost, maintenance burden, and deployment complexity.
BeamGrid’s EchoNet platform introduces a fundamentally different paradigm:
-
- Passive RF resonators embedded or attached to infrastructure
-
- Wireless interrogation using software-defined radio systems
-
- Detection of structural strain, deformation, and material degradation via resonance shifts
-
- Continuous monitoring without local power sources or active electronics
By leveraging electromagnetic resonance behaviour rather than conventional sensor electronics, EchoNet enables long-duration monitoring with minimal operational overhead.
“This demonstration shows that infrastructure can be monitored continuously without power, wiring, or complex installations,” said Dr. Vedaprabhu Basavarajappa, Founder and CEO of BeamGrid Technologies. “We are shifting structural health monitoring from periodic inspection to persistent awareness.”
Live Demonstration Highlights
During the proof-of-concept event, BeamGrid validated several key technical capabilities:
-
- Remote interrogation of passive RF resonator tags
-
- Real-time tracking of resonance behaviour under structural deformation
-
- Detection sensitivity to mechanical strain and structural changes
-
- Stable wireless signal acquisition using SDR-based interrogation systems
The demonstration confirmed that passive RF sensing can provide reliable structural intelligence beyond what visual inspections or conventional monitoring approaches alone can reveal. Supporting validation footage from the live proof-of-concept demonstration is publicly available: Demo Video
Addressing a Growing Infrastructure Challenge
Across the UK and globally, aging infrastructure presents increasing operational and safety challenges. Current inspection regimes often rely on periodic site visits and visual surveys, which may miss hidden degradation such as:
-
- Concealed corrosion or loss of section
-
- Debonding within reinforced concrete structures
-
- Sub-surface material fatigue
-
- Progressive structural weakening not visible externally
EchoNet aims to complement existing inspection methods by delivering continuous data that can identify early-stage deterioration trends.
Path Toward Scalable Deployment
Following the successful proof-of-concept, BeamGrid is advancing toward pilot deployments with infrastructure partners and integrators.
Key next steps include:
-
- Field trials on operational infrastructure assets
-
- Integration into digital asset management workflows
-
- Expansion of passive RF tag designs for different structural materials and environments
-
- Development of AI-assisted analysis tools for anomaly detection and predictive maintenance
The company expects early pilot deployments to support asset owners seeking lower-cost, scalable monitoring solutions aligned with net-zero and smart infrastructure initiatives.
